Graduate Profile – Debbie Yee, Product Designer at Woolies X

From no formal UX/UI Design background to Product Designer at Woolies X

With nine years of experience in account management, Debbie had the business acumen and people skills—but no formal UX background. Soon after finishing the Harness Projects UX/UI Design Career Launcher Course, she landed a role as Senior Product Designer at WooliesX.

During her time at Harness Projects, Debbie worked on three live client projects. Debbie;

  1. redesigned the donation flow for Weave Youth & Community Services,
  2. built a rebrand and loyalty prototype for SKIPPER, and
  3. mapped out a service ecosystem for The Big Issue.

These weren’t hypothetical briefs—they involved challenges, real users, and delivered real outcomes.

That experience helped Debbie build momentum fast. Debbie’s journey after finishing her course included;

  1. freelancing with Askable and Leapfrog Studio,
  2. picking up a contract at Atlassian,
  3. ultimately being hired by WooliesX to lead research on mobile checkout features.

What helped her stand out? A portfolio rooted in business thinking. The ability to speak confidently about research and stakeholder impact. And a unique blend of commercial experience and design thinking—all of which she learned to frame and showcase with support from the Harness Projects Career Launcher Course.
